biography |
Rosanna Salonia, born and raised in Milan, Italy, moves to the United States in 1992. After a three-year period in Washington DC where her interest for art and photography blooms, she falls for the Arizona desert and decides to let its awe-inspiring immensity inform the development of her vision. Ms.Salonia receives a BFA in Fine Art PHotography and a BA in Art History from the University of Arizona, Summa cum Laude, in 2000. She credits its Center for Creative Photography for the success of her studies, having interned and worked there from 1997 to 2000. It is thanks to its former director, Terry Pitts, that Ms.Salonia starts a fruitful liaison with the Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts in Japan. Directed by internationally renown photographer Eikoh Hosoe, the Museum has been collecting and exhibiting her works since 1999 for three consecutive years, for its Young Portfolio program. Ms.Salonia has exhibited widely in the Tucson area, including at the Center for Creative Photography, the Tucson Museum of Art, and the Museum of Contemporary Art. She has exhibited at the San Diego Art Institute, Fototeka in Los Angeles, Grey McGear Modern Gallery in Bergamot Station, Santa Monica, and at Artoconecto, an NEA sponsored event in Washington DC. Upcoming venues include: the Shemer Art Center in Phoenix (Summer 2003), Il Diaframma in Milan, Italy (Fall 2003), and Fort Napoleon/Villa Tamaris Centre dArt in Toulon, France, curated by Mr. Robert Bonaccorsi (Spring 2004). Ms.Salonia's work is in the collections of the Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts, the University of Arizona, and the Tucson Realty and Trust Company. She is represented in the Los Angeles area by Grey McGear Modern, and in Tucson by Metroform Limited Photographic Art.
